Real Yorkshire Approach is Working Well

TSP ShowBusiness, a family-run company which is growing its international reputation is showing that size doesn’t always matter as it celebrates 30 years in business.

TSP ShowBusiness Ltd, a PR and event management company based in Middlestown, started life in 1984. Back then it ran as a pure marketing and PR agency before customer demand saw it add national and international exhibitions and outside events to its portfolio in the late 1980’s.

Operations Director Jack Saward said: “There are a lot of events companies who build stands. We do so much more. We do everything, taking the hassle out of it for the customer.”

The company’s head office now operates from a former chapel in Middlestown, after it was based in Ossett for more than 25 years.

Despite the expected ups and downs of business, they have reached the 30-year milestone and that is something the company’s staff do not take lightly.

Mr Saward said: “Reaching our 30th birthday is something we are all incredibly proud of. Now we're just aiming for another few years at least”.

He believes one of the secrets to their success, even in the tough economic climate, is that they keep their roots local. Mr Saward added: “Lots of small businesses have struggled through difficult times, but we have managed to retain our customers and suppliers throughout. Perhaps this is because we have a very Yorkshire approach to every challenge, meaning we’re always direct and honest.”

This approach has continued to work for TSP ShowBusiness Ltd and their repeat customers. Jack said: “We offer customers a ‘professional cuddle’ by completely managing their event preparation, so they can just sit back and relax. We also spend the customer’s money as if we were spending our own. That’s why we have so many longstanding customers.”

Offering a full events management service to customers throughout the world, the company has worked in Germany, Italy, France and South Africa. Managing Director Tim Saward said: “What’s surprising to many people is that we are not a huge multinational organisation – just a relatively small family-run company.”

At the beginning of this year, the company took another big step and expanded into the North American market, with the design, construction, and management of a large double-deck stand for a customer at an event in Las Vegas. Tim said: “We’ve travelled to some great places as part of our job, but unfortunately there’s not always much time to see the sights. It’s just work and more work, even in Las Vegas!”

Despite their international customer base, TSP ShowBusiness still work with customers from the region at local, national and international events, and continue to develop links with local customers and suppliers. Jack, who was educated in Wakefield, said: “We’re loyal to our peers. Our Head Office will stay in Yorkshire even though we’ve built satellite sites around the world.”
